When meeting someone you should use common sense. Always meet in a public place and make sure that someone knows where you're going.
What are the best dating sites?
There are good dating sites and not so good ones. It all depends on what you are after - your age, your location and preferences. Do you want casual friendship or love and marriage, or someone to chat to online, or finding someone who lives near you? Make a note of what you want and then peruse Google to make a shortlist. Don't join the first dating site you find. Avoid the sites that make you join before they allow you to explore things like the cost or number of suitable members. These sites typically have a background that fades out when you click on the page, with no escape key, forcing you to join.
If you're looking for general "friendly" dating, then the site you're on is the best (we'd have to say that wouldn't we.) - www.m8date.co.uk
How do I write my profile?
Your profile is your chance to sell yourself to thousands of potential partners. But where do you start. Confident people can write a profile easily, but may not be a good proposition. Shy and quiet people are sometimes not good at talking about themselves. One option is to get a good friend to write it for you, based on how they see you. Your profile should be light-hearted and put over something about who you are and the things you like to do. Try to write something different to the norm so you stand out from the crowd. Keep your profile short and to the point. Don't ramble on forever. Try to include only positive traits. Sell yourself - don't undersell yourself. Keep it snappy and avoid sending readers to sleep. Look at some other profiles and take some tips from the ones you like.
Why should I include a photo?
By having a photo on your profile you're more than 5 times more likely to be viewed and much more likely to be contacted or replied to. Think about when you search, do you tend to click on the people with photos or without? M8date lets you add several photos and you can use these to show something about you. If you've got pictures of you travelling abroad or in interesting places, taking part in some kind of sport or just an amusing photo of you they will create much more interest than your passport type photo. Remember to smile, and let people see your face and your eyes. Avoid a photo with other people or a distant shot. Don't be afraid - your photo is there to sell yourself - warts and all. You must let people know that this is YOU.

If you take a full year's membership it will cost just £7.50 per month.
Are paying sites better than free sites?
Most online dating sites allow you to join and publish a profile for free. Free membership is relatively limited to seeing who's out there and making initial contact.. Being a free member means you can't respond to other members and have limited use of many of the functions unless you pay to join. There are some completely free dating sites who never charge, but make their income out of site-wide advertising. Free dating sites however tend to have fewer members and the messaging, search and profile information is generally very basic. Since the sites are free there is also a big chance of finding fake profiles and possible scams. Paying a membership fee means someone on a paid site is going to be more serious about finding someone. So Paid is best.
How long should I wait before I meet someone in person?
There are no hard and fast rules about this, but think safety. You should consider how well you know the person you're talking to. When it feels right to ask them to meet in real life then ask them. Don't rush in too quickly though and ask to meet in the first message. Get to know them a bit first, talk to them through M8date's chat or messaging, then maybe by phone to hear what they sound like. When you both feel it's time then arrange a date. Remember to meet somewhere public and follow the common sense safety tips for meeting up for the first time.
